God Gives Strength for the Battle
June 16, 2025
Christians are in a fight! As believers, as long as we are in this world, we
will be called upon to fight. We fight by the power of the Lord, and we fight
with the assurance of victory-our Lord’s victory. “Now thanks be unto
God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh
manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” 2 Cor.
2:14. Followers of the Lord are “in the world, but not of the world. God
places His people right in the thick of spiritual battles and right in the face of
our adversary, yet He is with us and gives us the strength to fight and to
prevail in His Name.
Later in his life, King David stated, “God is my strength and power: and
he maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds feet: and
setteth me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war; so
that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. For thou hast girded me
with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou
subdued under me.” 2 Sam. 22:33-35, 40. I believe the scriptures teach
that God is continually strengthening and preparing His saints for the
battles still to come. Day by day He is preparing His people for the battles
they will be called upon to face tomorrow. “ And David said unto Saul,
Thy servant kept his father sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear,
and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote
him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me,
I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.Thy servant
slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine
shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living
God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw
of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the
hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be
with thee.” 1 Sam. 17:34-37. As a young shepherd boy, David had seen
the power and faithfulness of God to fight through him and deliver him.
Such experience gave him confidence to go out and fight the Philistine
giant, Goliath, and to prevail! “ Then said David to the Philistine, Thou
comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I
come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies
of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee
into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee;
and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto
the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the
earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly
shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the
battle is the LORDS, and he will give you into our hands.” 1 Sam.
17:45-47.
As Christians, we should take advantage of every “ordinary” day knowing
that our Savior is graciously and mightily preparing us for the battles that
are ahead of us. He is faithful. He will not fail us or abandon us in our
moment of need. It’s not our strength but His. “ I sought the LORD, and he
heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him,
and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man
cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his
troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear
him, and delivereth them.” Ps. 34;4-7
