Deuteronomy 7:2   And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee;
thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor
shew mercy unto them:

The Lord called Israel to “utterly destroy” the idolaters that dwelt in the Promised Land and to
“make no covenant with them”. God also told them the tragic result that would come if they
allowed the Canaanites to remain in the land and to dwell among them “ surely they will turn away
your heart after their gods”. The Lord knows what He is talking about!  In a similar way, believers must
completely drive out the enemy from our own lives and not allow sin to remain in our hearts. As the
blood-bought children of God, we too have a Promised Land-not a physical land but rather the fullness
of life in Christ Jesus.  

We cannot fully possess or enjoy the Land God has purposed for us if we
compromise with the lost world around us or allow sin to remain in our hearts. Our Savior and Deliverer
will drive the enemy out if we will trust Him and walk in obedience to Him.

Deuteronomy 7:6   For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God:
the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are
upon the face of the earth.
